Acoustic Ocean, a new studio
group with a fresh, original sound, was born from the
collaboration of two veteran musicians and recording
artists, Morgan and Phelan.
Light Returning, the debut release from Acoustic Ocean,
bridges the artists’ extensive careers as touring folk
musicians with their current work in the healing arts.
The unique and beautiful sounds of Acoustic Ocean
reflect the musical and healing arts backgrounds of the
artists as well as the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands,
where they currently reside.
LIGHT RETURNING
The creation of Light
Returning was a meditative and improvisational process.
Morgan composed the music on the harp during meditation
and together the artists explored and expanded on
original compositions. Light Returning grew organically
from this process.
Parts were added in a manner similar to layering paint
on a canvas, with compositions taking shape during the
recording and mixing process. The lush tapestries of
sound that emerged have a quieting effect on the mind.
Listeners are transported into their own inner
landscapes where deep relaxation and healing can occur.
Morgan began playing the new compositions for her body
therapy clients and immediately noticed the beneficial
effects. The music clearly brought the clients out of
“fight or flight” and into “rest and repair” mode.
Muscles relaxed, the breath deepened, and other signs of
reduced stress levels occurred.
As
Morgan and Phelan continued to share their new music
with clients, students and friends, it became clear that
the music works extremely well with massage, yoga and
other movement practices. It facilitates relaxation and
sleep.
From
these beginnings Acoustic Ocean and the Light Returning
CD were born.
MERGING MUSICAL ARTS WITH HEALING ARTS
After a successful touring
career that spanned 20-years, Morgan and Phelan
relocated to Hawaii and pursued careers in the healing
arts. Having practiced yoga since the mid-1970s their
move toward alternative healing was a natural
transition.
Morgan is a Craniosacral therapist who specializes in
SomatoEmotional Release, Heart Centered Therapy and
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy. She is also a Certified
Kripalu Yoga Teacher.
Phelan is a Certified Kripalu Yoga teacher,
Transpersonal Hypnotherapist and Stress Management
Counselor. Phelan has produced two highly effective and
well received CDs: “Yoga for Strength, Flexibility,
Vitality & Relaxation”, and “Guided Relaxation for
Stress Reduction & Deep Sleep”, available at
www.LearnYoga-Online.com.
In
the mid-90s Morgan and Phelan developed a unique therapy
protocol called SoundBodyMind. The sessions, facilitated
by two therapists, combine hands on healing,
hypnotherapy and vocal sounding.
Morgan and Phelan are founders and directors of Tropical
Tune-Ups, yoga and wellness retreats in Hawaii. Their
week-long retreats focus on yoga, breath, sound and
meditation as tools for creating health and balance.
They have led numerous workshops in sound healing.
MORGAN & PHELAN
Morgan & Phelan, a
singer/songwriter acoustic duo, toured together for 20
years. They were best known for their impeccable
musicianship and tight vocal harmonies. Their original
music has a strong element of empowerment and
inspiration in its message. As one reviewer wrote: “They
provoke thought and discovery from within. They give us
hope and belief, stirring a remarkable passion.”
During their years together they toured from Boston to
Brisbane playing at festivals, concert series, folk
clubs, schools, colleges and on radio and television. In
the 1980s they were featured performers with
Connecticut's Directory of Touring Artists. In 1988, an
invitation to perform at World Expo took Morgan & Phelan
to Australia where they performed over 70 concerts for
international audiences.
Morgan & Phelan produced four recordings of original
music. One of their original songs was chosen to appear
on the June '93 Best of Eugene issue of the Fast Folk
Musical Magazine CD, a song-writer's showcase out of New
York City. Two of Morgan’s songs were recognized with
awards from: The Great American Song Contest and the
John Lennon Song Contest. Their music received
widespread airplay on college and public radio stations.
Morgan & Phelan were founding members of Good Company
Productions, a record label and artist's cooperative
centered in Boston. The Good Company label released 8
recordings and produced two group concerts over a 5-year
period.
In
addition to their singer/songwriter performances, Morgan
& Phelan introduced thousands of children to American
folk music and stories through their school
performances, workshops, family concerts and museum
programs. They released one recording of songs and
stories for children as well as an extensive illustrated
study guide, which accompanied their school programs.
Light Returning will help people to access those parts
of themselves that are in need of healing and to bring
about a greater sense of balance and harmony in their
lives.
